This is the first full-length solo release from Moody, multi-instrumentalist founder member of The Wailin’ Jennys and former lead singer of the Canadian roots band Scruj MacDuhk (the band that would later be known as The Duhks). Born in Australia but raised on the plains of Canada, Moody’s songs mix Americana and roots styles in an intuitive and atmospheric blend that makes you want to sit out on an old wooden porch while you listen, watching the rain fall on the prairie. Her voice is capable of great delicacy, especially on ‘Within Without You’, where it chimes like cut glass, and the album rolls along with quiet agreeableness, with the restrained emotion of the piano-based ‘Winter Waltz’ making it the standout track in a collection of compelling beauty.
