After winning a Juno Award last month, Ruth Moody has another prize to add to her collection.
Moody won first place in the gospel/Christian music category in the 2011 International Songwriting Competition for her song, Storm Comin’, released on the Wailin’ Jennys’ album Bright Morning Stars, which earned a Juno for roots and traditional album of the year: group.
Moody wins a collection of gear, software and subscription packages to various trade magazines.
Scott Nolan took home third place in the Americana category for his song You Rock We Roll off his 2011 album, Montgomery Eldorado.
The annual contest accepts entries from around the world with songwriters getting judged by musicians and industry professionals in 22 different categories. A total of 16,000 artists paid $30 per song to enter. This year’s judges include Tom Waits, Jeff Beck, Lucinda Williams, Ozzy Osbourne, John Mayall and Simon Le Bon.
New Zealand pop songwriter Kimbra Johnson was named the 2011 grand prize winner.
